June 15 – 18, 2017
The world keeps turning, whether we like it or not.
After a long and emotional week – heart broken to say I attended a funeral – this weekend was all about enjoying the small things. Sometimes, a loss serves as a reminder to appreciate life, the small things, what we do still have here.
After work, I met up with friends for celebratory drinks at Waterbar. We were celebrating my friend’s new job, but also the beautiful weather! Drinks, oysters (not for me) and salads for happy hour, followed up with a delicious dinner. All the while sitting on the patio, overlooking the Bay Bridge and watching the sky turn from bright blues, to softer shades as time moved from afternoon, to evening, to night. It was a gorgeous night!
After such a sad week, it was a relief to go to see a movie: Rough Night. I probably laughed harder than was necessary, just thankful for something that was funny and let me laugh. It was quite a stupid movie, but still funny. I’d recommend it for anyone who wants to have a laugh, especially at Kate McKinnon (she does a fab Australian accent).
The weather in San Francisco was so beautiful this weekend. After a short (hot) run through Golden Gate Park, I stumbled upon the most beautiful Rose Garden near Crossover Dr. and Fulton St. inside the park. I run by the garden almost with every run but I’ve never seen such beautiful roses before. Stunning colors, smells and the biggest roses you’ve ever seen! I went a little crazy taking pictures with the portrait mode on my iPhone, but I think they turned out pretty well and did the roses justice.
Next up: Baker Beach! Such good weather meant Baker Beach was a necessity this weekend. I finally got to meet my friends’ sweet new puppy, Jones, and we had a great gathering of friends and dogs on the beach. Snacks galore, watermelon beer, white wine and dogs all around. Perfect day! The day ended with relaxing at a friend’s house before dinner at Tacolicious to visit my friend who bar-tends there. We were going to go to a bar nearby after dinner, but a new chocolate shop caught our eyes and we ended up having hot chocolate instead! Off to bed.
Happy Father’s Day! Sadly, since my parents live outside of the US, I don’t get to spend Father’s (or Mother’s) Day with them. Luckily, they’re both flying in on Thursday for the summer, and my Dad and I are going to spend Sunday together at the Giants game! We’ll have a delayed Father’s Day celebration! We were able to FaceTime for a bit, which is always nice. Thank goodness for technology.
The rest of the day was spent doing a couple of errands. I’m cat-sitting for my friend while she’s in Europe (lucky duck!) so I spent a bit of time at her place today playing with the kitties. Being there for friends when they need it is so important. I’m grateful to have someone as close as her that trusts me to take care of her precious ones!
After some iced coffee while sitting outside reading, I moseyed on home and prepped to go to a friend’s house for dinner and game night. The game What Do You Meme? is hilarious. It’s similar to Cards Against Humanity or Apples to Apples.
What a great weekend. Spent it with friends, family, dogs and cats. It’s so important to be present, be grateful and thankful for what we all have. I hope you all had a lovely weekend, and are enjoying the small things!
